Solutions to buying a property in France

Having just returned from the French Property Show in London this weekend, Trisha Mason of VEF Group tells how heartening it has been to find so many potential buyers finding solutions to their plans of buying a property in France...

There is no doubt that the current economic problems have meant that some people have had to re-think their plans of buying a home in France and at the beginning of the year we were hearing of a lot of people who were just too worried to carry on with their purchasing plans or felt that they had to put things on hold while the economy and their personal finances settled down.

Now 9 months on it seems that many people have found solutions and that this has rarely involved giving up on their dreams. We were hearing many people who had decided to rent out their UK property to take advantage of the buoyant rental market here and to protect themselves against the current loss in market value of their property at home. Once the UK property market starts to rise again they intend to sell their UK property but until then they will use the rental income to pay the French mortgage on their new home.

Other people had decided to drop their budget for the French property rather than loose their dream. They had come to terms with getting a little less for their money or having to do a bit more work to the property than they had first planned.

Whatever the personal solution that potential buyers had found, we certainly noticed a marked difference from the beginning of the year. The mood was positive, people positively wanted to get out of the UK and they had found positive ways to make it happen. 34% of the people we spoke to are planning to get out to France before the end of October and most of them are hoping to be installed in their new holiday home or full time residence by Christmas. So congratulations to those of you who fit into this category, we shall be enjoying helping you make your plans come to fruition.
